Sindhuli District


Sindhuli District is a beautiful district situated in Janakpur Zone. This district covered an area of two thousand four hundred and ninety one square kilometer and is bordered by Udayapur and Siraha in east, Rautahat and Kavreplanchok in west, Ranechhap and Okhaldhunga in north and Sarlahi, Mohattari and Dhanusa district in south.Sindhulimadi kamalamai is the headquarter of this district.

Different people have different stories for the naming of this district as Sindhuli. Some people believed that in past here used to be a great saint who was popular by the name of Siddha Baba ( etymologically The enlighten one). So this place got its name as Siddhasthali (Place where Siddha lives) which deviated and began to be pronounced as Sindhuli.

Another story behind the naming of Sindhuli is that there were lots of Tamang people in Sindhuli in past. According to Tamang language 'Singthuwa' means cutting down the trees and 'Sinthuji' means collecting the timber. Here used to be dense forest in past and people espicially from Tamang community visit here to cut trees.In course of time Sinthuji converted to Sindhuli.

We can reach to this district from Kathmandu after a drive of four hundred kilometer. There is good facility of road, electricity and education in this district. If we traveled to Sindhuli via newly constructed B.P. highway than we can reach to Sindhuli in around one hundred and fifty kilometer.
This place is popular for junar orange farming. There are many place to visit in this district. Sindhuli Gadhi, Siddhababa Temple, Kalimaai Temple, Sindhuli Madi, Bardibaas are few of them.

Sindhuli Gadhi:
This is a place of historical significance situated at a distance of around twenty kilometer from the headquarter Sindhuli Maadi. The place is situated at the top of a hill. We can view the wall of ancient palace which once used to be district administrator. The cold and chilling weather and the beautiful landscape view from this place attracts everyone here.

Siddha Baba Temple:
 This temple is situated at the top of a hill near the headquarter of Sindhuli. We can reach to this place by a walk of around two hours from Sindhulimadi. This place is believed to be the holy place and if a person pray for something by pure heart than his desired get fulfilled. We can view the beautiful Sindhulimadi valley from this place.  

Kaalimaai Temple: 
 Kalimaai Temple is situated in Kamalamai municipality 4. This temple is situated on the bank of river Gwanga Khola and is in the middle of a dense forest. We can observed the beautiful Madhutaar Village during the visit of this temple. This is one of the famous temple of lord Kali and there is a great fair during the first day of Nepali month Magh.
