Tehrathum District is one of the district situated in hilly region of Eastern Development region in Koshi Zone. It is believed that the name of this district Tehrathum is derived from the number of hills situated in this district. In Nepali Tehra means Thirteen and Thum means Peak so the name Tehrathum means the place with thirteen peaks. This place is situated in the altitude range from 354 meter to 2,963 meter. It covers an area of six hundred and seventy nine sq. meter. This district is situated in between Taplejung, Panchthar, Dhankuta and Sankhuwasabha District and is popularly known as kingdom of Rhododendron.
We can reach this place from Kathmandu via Bus crossing Dharan and Dhankuta. This is a under developing district but there is good road to reach the Headquarter of Tehrathum i.e. Myanglung Bazar. Majority of people are from Limbu community in this place but we can also find Bramins, Chettri and Rai Community people here.
There are lots of place to visit in this district. Singha Bahini Temple, Siddhadevi temple, Jal Kanya Devi Temple, Pancha Kanya Devi are few of the religiously important place of Tehrathum.Hyatrung Waterfall(Jharana), Tinjure hill, Tinjure-Milke-jaljale area, Margha Pokhari are few of the naturally important place.
Hyatrung Waterfall:
This is the tallest water fall in Nepal and is situated in between Isibu and Samdu VDC.This waterfall is among the thirty highest waterfall in the World.
Tinjure Hill:
As the name Tinjure it consist of three peaks and is one of the best place in Terhathum for Trekking. We can view beautiful view of Mt. Kanchanjunga, Kumbakarna from this place.
Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale Area:
This area is popular for Rhododendron. We can find twenty eight types of Rhododendron among the Thirty Two Verity in this place. Due to this reason this place is also known as Kingdom of Rhododendron in Nepal. If you travel this place during the month of Falgun, Chaitra and Baishak than the view of colorful forest makes you lost in its beauty.
Singhabahini Temple:
This temple is situated in the heart of Myanglung Bazar (The Headquater of Terhathum District). It is
belived that if one pray in this holy place with pure heart than their wish get fulfilled. Singabahini Devi temple is one of the most popular holy place in Terhathum and if you are planning to visit Terhathum than you must have to visit this place.
