It is situated in Sunsari District at Koshi zone at the bank of the Sapta Koshi and Koka rivers. It is one of the four holy places in Nepal where we can enjoy the serene and the beautiful surrounding while travelling towards it.We can reach this place by the local bus from Ithari, Biratnagar or Dharan.We can hire a taxi as an alternative too.For the people who love trekking it is best to visit this place on foot from Chatara.After a walk of five kilometer from Chatara, we reach to this religious place Barahachetra.
According to Puran the Preserver of the Universe Lord Vishnu has incarnated as a Boar (Baraha) in this place and destroyed an evil demon (Hiranyakashyapu) at this place so it is called the place of Baraha (Barahachhetra). The Pilgrimage is at a confluence of tributaries of river Koshi and hence many pilgrims around Nepal and India come here for dip at the day of Makar Shankrati.
